A Day at Our Farm Is Worth Two in the Classroom

Our farm is the perfect place for children to learn about the process of growing foods, raising animals and their life cycle in a safe, family-friendly environment. We are trying to create a connection of where food comes from so that children have more knowledge about what they put into their bodies. Nowadays children can become disconnected from their source of food and fiber.

Your family can spend all or part of the day at our farm for your child's birthday party, a family reunion or just an adventure with the family. Feel free to even suggest Leddy's Homestead to your child's teacher for their next field trip destination. One way to bridge this gap in knowledge is through a visit to a working farm! We welcome the opportunity to show off our farm to school groups, scout troops, play groups, gardening clubs, senior groups and others interested in farm education and local agriculture.

Now booking for 2024 – Educational Fall Tours including strawberry planting and picking as well as raspberry, sweet corn, peach, apple and pumpkin picking! Plan your next field trip and bring your class or group for an educational and fun day on a modern, family-owned and operated, 23+ acre working produce farm. We are conveniently located in Alba, Texas, which is approximately a 90 minute drive from Dallas – nestled in beautiful Wood County. It is an easy commute for an experience that children and their families will remember forever. No visit is the same twice. We can tailor any program to meet your goals for students or a group, and make sure you have a fantastic time as well!

We recognize and appreciate that the teachers who visit our farm always strive to give their students the best learning experience that they could have. Farm tutorials are an important part of a child’s education since they offer a well-rounded learning experience they will never forget. Leddy's Homeastead provides an ever-changing curriculum for you and your students. Ask us for details.

Depending on the Season here are the tours we will offer:

Strawberry Picking Tours include an educational lesson about strawberries, an interactive tour of the homestead, a pint container to pick your own strawberries, a refreshing snack at our picnic area, and an opportunity to spend time with our farm animals and enjoy the beauty of Leddy's Homestead! Many children have never had the wonderful experience of tasting a fresh-picked strawberry right from the patch! We love watching children as they take their first bite of a big and juicy red strawberry – as the juice runs down their face and their eyes grow big with surprise! Strawberry picking is a memorable experience for children of all ages. Each child will go home with a fresh-picked pint of strawberries to share with their family – if they make it that far! Strawberry season officially begins in early June – tours booked in May will include the planting of an individual strawberry plant for each participant to take home and grow their own strawberries!

Available in early July through September (weather and crop conditions permitting)

Summer Tours have the option of picking a variety of crops including red and black raspberries, blackberries, peaches or sweet corn. The crop choice will be dependant on the date of the tour and the crop conditions at the time of the tour. An educational lesson on the featured crop is included as well as an interactive tour of the homestead, a  crop picking activity, a refreshing snack at our picnic area, and an opportunity to spend time with our farm animals and enjoy the beauty of Leddy's Homestead!

Available from late September – October
