Our farm family is made up of the incredible people who have chosen to become part of life here on the homestead. Some stay with us for a season, while others become a part of our story for much longer, but each person brings their own skills, personality, and helping hands to what we are building together.

From caring for animals and tending gardens and greenhouses to planting, mowing, building projects, harvesting, and helping prepare for future educational programs, there is always something happening around here. More than simply helping with the work, our farm family is part of the community we are creating—a place where people can learn from one another, work side by side, share knowledge, and help turn a dream into something that continues to grow. Every person who spends time here leaves a little piece of themselves behind, and Leddy’s Homestead is better because they were part of its story.

You’ll probably find Derrek already on it.

Derrek has one of those calm, steady spirits that seems to fit naturally into life on the homestead. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, quick to learn, and a true animal lover—but one of the things we appreciate most about him is that he simply sees what needs to be done and does it. Mention that the chickens need tending, an animal needs checking, or a project needs attention, and chances are Derrek is already halfway there before you’ve finished the sentence.

His journey to Leddy’s Homestead came alongside  Cherity, as the two followed a calling to use their time and talents to help people, communities, and the places they encounter along the way. That journey eventually brought them to East Texas and then to us. What began as a visit quickly became something that felt much more like family, and it honestly feels as though they’ve always belonged here.

With a background that includes decades of tile work, physical therapy, Reiki and energy work, Derrek brings an incredible mix of practical skill, patience, and care to everything he does. Whether he’s caring for the animals, helping with a project, working the land, or simply lending a hand wherever one is needed, he has become an invaluable part of what we’re building here—and we’re incredibly grateful that his journey brought him to our little corner of East Texas.

Meet Cherity -our quiet ray of sunshine.

Cherity is a little quieter and more observant, but don’t let that fool you—she’s always paying attention. If something needs to be done, I can mention it to her and know she’ll take care of it. She has a love for nature and crystals and a creative way of adding little touches around the homestead that make it feel more like home. One of my favorites is the little pinecone pathway she started near where she and Derrek are staying. It wasn’t something anyone asked her to do; it was simply something she saw and began creating.

She has also become a really special part of Malakai’s world. The two of them just seem to resonate with each other. When I’m busy working, Cherity is often there to sit with him, play games, take him outside, listen to him, or encourage him in whatever he happens to be doing. As a mom, having someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with your child and cares about them means more than I can really put into words.

Cherity and Derrek came into our lives while following their own calling to help people and make a positive difference wherever their journey takes them. They may not have originally known that journey would lead them here, but since arriving, Cherity has quietly woven herself into everyday life on the homestead. Sometimes family isn’t something you plan—it’s simply something that begins to feel like it has always been there.
