Meet Buddy

Some stories begin when you choose a dog.

Ours began when a dog chose us.

On September 22, 2018, while we were still living in Plattsburg, Missouri, Buddy wandered into our garage. At first, we thought he was simply passing through. Like many strays, we figured he'd continue on his way after getting some rest.

But he never did.

For three days, Buddy stayed close. Whenever Aaron was outside, Buddy would quietly lie nearby. He wasn't demanding attention or asking for anything. He simply wanted to be close, as if he had already decided where he belonged.

By the third day, it was obvious—Buddy had chosen us.

We scheduled a visit to the veterinarian, and during the drive Buddy became terribly carsick. What came up told us more about his past than words ever could. Plastic, trash, and things no dog should have to eat showed just how difficult life had been before he found our family.

After getting him healthy and neutered, Buddy officially became part of the Leddy family.

When we moved from Missouri to Texas in 2019, Buddy made the journey with us. He has watched the homestead grow from the very beginning and has been there through every new fence, every new animal, every new project, and every season of life.

Today, Buddy is one of the quiet leaders of our farm. He's calm, dependable, and protective without ever needing to prove it. He happily shares the homestead with the chickens, ducks, and the rest of the dogs, always keeping a watchful eye on everything happening around him.

If you've ever visited the homestead, there's a good chance Buddy noticed you long before you noticed him.

He may have arrived as a stray, but today he's one of the most trusted members of our family—and we honestly can't imagine the homestead without him.
