Molly's Journey

Some dogs come into your life when you know exactly what you're looking for.

Others arrive when your heart needs them most.

Molly came into our family at eight weeks old after I found her while scrolling through puppy listings online. Born on December 9, 2016, this tiny little Morkie immediately caught my eye.

I wasn't looking for just any puppy.

Aaron had recently lost his beloved service dog, Patches, a beautiful black-and-white Landseer Newfoundland who had been his constant companion. Losing her left a hole that couldn't be replaced, but I hoped another dog might help his heart begin to heal.

So I brought Molly home as a surprise.

At barely six pounds, she couldn't have been more different from a 160-pound Newfoundland. It took a little time for everyone to adjust, but Molly quickly proved that the size of a dog has nothing to do with the size of their heart.

From the very beginning, she was incredibly smart. We trained together every day, and before long she knew exactly how to help. If something was dropped, she'd pick it up. During anxious moments or after nightmares, she'd quietly curl up beside the person who needed her most. She always seemed to know when someone needed comfort.

Life on the homestead changed Molly in the best possible way.

The little princess who once enjoyed spa days and being pampered slowly transformed into one of the toughest little farm dogs around. Today she's happiest racing through the pasture with dogs ten times her size, rolling in mud puddles, digging in the sand, and making sure everyone knows she's in charge.

Despite being the smallest dog here, Molly has never believed she's little.

Now, as she gets older and enjoys a well-earned retirement, she's lost a few teeth but none of her spirit. She still loves to snuggle, still keeps an eye on everyone, and still reminds us every day that courage doesn't come in pounds.

She's proof that sometimes the smallest member of the family leaves the biggest impression.
