Meet William

🐾 You might spot William keeping a watchful eye over the goat herd, stretching out in the sunshine after a good meal, or patiently waiting by the fence in hopes that someone brought him a special treat. Despite his impressive size and horns, he's one of the gentlest members of the homestead and is happiest spending his days with his herd.

William's Journey

William was born on March 29, 2022, to his sweet mom, Winter. His first few months of life were filled with curiosity, sunshine, and staying close to his mother as he learned how to be a goat. But everything changed when Winter suddenly became very sick. By the time it became clear something was wrong, there was little anyone could do. Whether it was parasites or an infection, we'll never know for certain. We kept her comfortable until the very end, but sadly, she didn't make it.

Although William was mostly weaned, he was still just a young buck—only about four or five months old. Without his mom, life became much harder. At feeding time, the older goats would crowd around the feed, pushing the smaller goats aside. William was gentle by nature and often ended up with far less than he needed.

That's when my mom, who was visiting from Germany, quietly stepped in. Every day she made sure William had his own meals, hand-feeding him so he could grow strong without having to compete with the rest of the herd. It became part of their daily routine, and before long, William wasn't just surviving—he was thriving.

With time, patience, and a lot of extra care, the little goat who once struggled to get enough to eat grew into one of the largest bucks on the homestead. His impressive horns might be the first thing people notice, but those who spend time with him quickly discover his gentle heart and calm nature.

Today, William is a confident leader in the pasture and one of the most recognizable members of our goat herd. Every time we see him standing tall among the others, we're reminded that sometimes all it takes is a little extra kindness to change the course of a life.
